It's the last month of the year and the December Challenge is the perfect opportunity to get outdoors and add those last ticks to your list.
This month's bird is the Canada Goose, known for its iconic V-shaped flight formation, which helps conserve energy during long migrations of up to 3,000 miles. They mate for life, with strong pair bonds, and both parents actively protect and care for their young. Canada geese are herbivores, feeding on grasses, grains, and aquatic vegetation, but they have been known to scavenge in urban areas. Remarkably, their honking calls are not just noise—they serve as a form of communication, helping the flock coordinate in flight.
This challenge is for anyone with a Birda account. This challenge is for tickable species only. You can read more about tickable species here.
This challenge starts and ends based on the GMT time zone. All individual species logged globally will count towards this challenge and will be included in any leaderboard placement. All sightings must be logged before midnight on the day the challenge ends.
Be honest with yourself and other birders, but above all, respectful of them and any other outdoor users, everywhere – especially online. If you didn’t see it (or hear it), please don’t put it on Birda.
