🐦 Log 30 species
This June, your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to spot and record 30 different bird species over the next 30 days. Whether you explore the wilderness or watch from your window, embrace the adventure. Connect with our bird-loving community, exchange insights, and enjoy the beauty of our feathered friends. Let the birding begin!
This month's bird is the Spoon-billed Sandpiper, known for its unique spoon-shaped bill, which allows it to efficiently sift through mud for food. This critically endangered bird, with fewer than 500 mature individuals remaining, faces significant threats from habitat destruction. They undertake a remarkable migration from northeastern Russia to Southeast Asia, navigating thousands of kilometers and facing challenges like habitat loss along their route.
This challenge is for anyone with a Birda account. This challenge is for tickable species only. You can read more about tickable species here.
This challenge starts and ends based on the GMT time zone. All individual species logged globally will count towards this challenge and will be included in any leaderboard placement. All sightings must be logged before midnight on the day the challenge ends.
Be honest with yourself and other birders, but above all, respectful of them and any other outdoor users, everywhere – especially online. If you didn’t see it (or hear it), please don’t put it on Birda.
