About

🐦 Log 30 species

📍 Anywhere

Spot 30 bird species this July—join the fun and challenge yourself, whether you're out for a stroll in the park or window-watching at home.

This month's bird is the Mute Swan (Cygnus olor) and is one of the heaviest flying birds, with males sometimes weighing over 12kg. Despite its name, it’s not actually mute. These elegant birds can hiss, grunt, and snort, especially when protecting their nests. Known for their graceful appearance, Mute Swans form monogamous pair bonds that often last for life, and both parents are fiercely protective of their young, known as cygnets. Their striking S-shaped necks and orange bills with a black knob make them easily recognisable.

This challenge is for anyone with a Birda account. This challenge is for tickable species only. You can read more about tickable species here.

This challenge starts and ends based on the GMT time zone. All individual species logged globally will count towards this challenge and will be included in any leaderboard placement. All sightings must be logged before midnight on the day the challenge ends.

Be honest with yourself and other birders, but above all, respectful of them and any other outdoor users, everywhere – especially online. If you didn’t see it (or hear it), please don’t put it on Birda.

Terrific App for Birders
Downloaded Birda around the time my interest in birding was sparked, and it has been a terrific app to help me (1) share my experience, (2) document my sightings, and (3) learn more about birds in general. That said, I also believe Birda is a fantastic app for birders of all experience levels. Great community!

I think this app is fun. It makes you want to spot birds more so I guess in a way it encourages you to get out and about instead of sitting in front of the TV.
