๐ฆ Log 30 species
๐ Anywhere
As the year draws to a close, letโs finish strong! December is your last chance to add to your yearly list so wrap up 2025 with a flurry of feathers. Whether itโs a quiet winter woodland walk or a festive garden birdwatch, challenge yourself to log 30 different species before the year is out.
This month's bird is the Northern Goshawk (Accipiter gentilis), a powerful and elusive raptor known for its breathtaking agility. With fierce orange eyes and broad wings built for speed, the goshawk glides silently through forests in pursuit of prey. Northern Goshawks are so fiercely territorial that theyโre known to dive-bomb intruders, including humans, if they get too close to an active nest. Theyโre one of the few raptors bold enough to defend their territory with such intensity, which is why forestry workers in breeding areas sometimes wear helmets or eye protection during nesting season!
This challenge is for anyone with a Birda account. This challenge is for tickable species only. You can read more about tickable species here.
This challenge starts and ends based on the GMT time zone. All individual species logged globally will count towards this challenge and will be included in any leaderboard placement. All sightings must be logged before midnight on the day the challenge ends.
Be honest with yourself and other birders, but above all, respectful of them and any other outdoor users, everywhere โ especially online. If you didnโt see it (or hear it), please donโt put it on Birda.
