About

๐Ÿฆ Log 20 species

๐Ÿ“Texas, USA

๐Ÿ† Complete the challenge, earn your digital finisherโ€™s badge and be in with a chance to win one of two awesome, AI powered, Birdfy Bird Feeders.

Join the Rio Grande Valley Birding Festival Challenge from 6 - 10th Nov to share, connect and compete with your fellow festival attendees!

The RGVBF challenges you to see and log at least 20 species in and around the festival (sightings within the state of Texas will all count) to be in with a chance to win an amazing Birdfy prize. But if you want to reach the top of this leaderboard youโ€™ll certainly have to keep your eyes peeled and go above and beyond.

Want to spice things up even more? Try and find an Altamira Oriole, a Great Kiskadee and a Green Jay - all of which are present in the RGVBF logo.

What is the Rio Grande Valley Birding Festival? The RGVBF is one of the premier birdwatching events in the USA, and has been attracting birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts from all around the globe for over 25 years.

We almost forgot to mention, and this is important. You just need to complete the challenge to be added to the prize draw. It's not about being at the top of the leaderboard - although that does feel nice - it's about birds, fun and sightings; in that order!

Terms

This challenge is for anyone with a Birda account. This challenge is for tickable species only. You can read more about tickable species here.

This challenge starts and ends based on Central Time (GMT-5). All individual species logged within the State of Texas will count towards this challenge and will be included in any leaderboard placement. All sightings must be logged before midnight (Central Time) on the day the challenge ends.

Be honest with yourself and other birders, but above all, respectful of them and any other outdoor users, everywhere โ€“ especially online. If you didnโ€™t see it (or hear it), please donโ€™t put it on Birda.

September Challenge 2024

01 - 30 Sep, 2024
๐Ÿฆ Log 30 species ๐Ÿ“ Anywhere Take on this month's challenge to identify 30 bird species. Whether you're exploring the wild outdoors, local parks, or your own backyard, log your sightings in the app and connect with a community of fellow bird enthusiasts. Let the birding adventure begin! This month's bird is the Grey Phalarope, also known as the Red Phalarope (Phalaropus fulicarius). It is a remarkable bird with reversed gender roles, where females are more colorful and lead courtship. These birds are strong fliers, migrating long distances from their Arctic breeding grounds to the open ocean, where they live pelagically during the non-breeding season. Their plumage changes from striking red in the breeding season to grey and white in winter, reflecting their dual names.

A great app
Enjoying it immensely and finding it useful too. Recording the different birds and counting them is showing me how the present climate is affecting them all. I've trebled the numbers by planting native hedging. A great app.

I really enjoy using Birda, all sightings are recorded and photos can be added. There are monthly challenges which help to get you out to record your sightings. The Birda community are great and are happy to help with unidentified bird sightings. Suitable for all ages and experience!
