Chris Bell has seen an Orange-breasted Falcon
Sighting
Observation Details: The bird was seen perched on a bare tree branch on a rocky 'tepuy'-like formation known as Cerro Pinturas or Cerro Azul, 47km from San Jose del Guaviare, in Guaviare department. The local guide (a young man showing us the local cave paintings, not a birder) had mentioned that we might see the 'halcon' (falcon) if we were lucky, but I assumed he was referring to any bird of prey as I had no suspicion that this species was likely to be present. The bird was relaxed and untroubled (as the guide said it always was) and the guide noted that there was a pair and that he had been seeing them for several months, having never noticed them prior to that. Another example of the same species was noted near the Guaviare-Meta border in similar habitat 2 days later (just a few KM from this sighting), most likely the same bird, or one of the pair.
