The Luapula cisticola can be found across a range of countries in Africa, including eastern Angola, Lake Mweru in the south-eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia, northern and north-eastern Namibia, northern Botswana, and north-western Zimbabwe.

The IUCN Red List has classified the Luapula cisticola as Least Concern, indicating that, for now, this species is not at immediate risk of decline.
