Rufous-throated Honeyeater

Conopophila rufogularis

The Rufous-throated Honeyeater, known scientifically as Conopophila rufogularis, is a charming avian species belonging to the Meliphagidae family. This bird is a true spectacle of nature, endemic to the northern reaches of Australia.

Identification Tips

When seeking to identify this honeyeater, look for its distinctive rufous throat, which stands out against its otherwise subdued plumage. The bird's size and coloration are key identifiers, with a modest stature that is typical of the honeyeater family.

Habitat

The Rufous-throated Honeyeater is most commonly found in subtropical or tropical mangrove forests. These ecosystems provide the perfect backdrop for observing this species in its natural environment.

Distribution

This species is a proud resident of northern Australia, where it has adapted to thrive in its local habitat. Observers will be delighted to find it in this region, where it is a common sight in the right locales.

Behaviour

In urban environments, the Rufous-throated Honeyeater exhibits a remarkable adaptability. It has been noted for its resilience in these settings, likely due to the absence of nest predators that would otherwise pose a threat to its survival.

Conservation status

Bird enthusiasts can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that the Rufous-throated Honeyeater is currently listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List. This status reflects a stable population, free from immediate threats of decline.

Friendly and helps to identify birds
Great birding app, good for logging your sightings, also has nice species guide. I'm enjoying the social aspect more than I expected, everyone seems friendly and helps to identify unknown birds. Good mix of newbies and experienced users.

Makes you want to spot birds more
I think this app is fun. It makes you want to spot birds more so I guess in a way it encourages you to get out and about instead of sitting in front of the TV.
