The Northern Schiffornis, a medium-sized bird, measures approximately 24 cm in length. Its plumage and stature are characteristic of the Neotropical avian fauna.
This species graces the forests from southeast Mexico to western Colombia and Venezuela. It thrives in the lush subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, as well as the subtropical or tropical moist montane forests, where the humidity clings to the greenery.
Once considered part of the manakin family, the Northern Schiffornis is now firmly placed within the Tityridae family, following strong evidence supporting this classification. The American Ornithological Society recognized it as a distinct species in 2013, separating it from the thrush-like Schiffornis complex.
The Northern Schiffornis is currently listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List, indicating that, for now, this species is not at immediate risk of decline.
