Chat-tanagers

The Calyptophilus genus, native to Hispaniola in the Caribbean, encompasses two unique bird species known as the Western chat-tanager (Calyptophilus tertius) and the Eastern chat-tanager (Calyptophilus frugivorus). Historically grouped within the Thraupidae family, they have since been classified into their own family, Calyptophilidae, reflecting their distinct traits. The term 'Calyptophilus' is derived from Greek, meaning 'lover of hiding' – an apt descriptor for these elusive birds. Initially, both species were considered one (C. frugivorus) with the common name of chat-tanager, but they are now recognized as separate entities. The genus was first established by Charles Barney Cory back in 1884.

My favourite app
As a young birdwatcher who was always keen to be apart of a community but never seemed to find one, my problem was solved downloading this!!! Everyone is so friendly and just as excited to see birds as me 😁

Just what birding needs
We need more fun in birding, for years it has had a reputation for being up tight and stuffy and only perused by retirees and anoraks. Birda helps change that perception and firmly brings birding into the 21st century! Fun, interactive while still contributing to science and conservation. If you aren’t on it, why not??

Makes you want to spot birds more
I think this app is fun. It makes you want to spot birds more so I guess in a way it encourages you to get out and about instead of sitting in front of the TV.
