Mitrospingid Tanagers

The family Mitrospingidae, established in 2013 and recognized by the American Ornithological Society in 2017 and the International Ornithological Committee, encompasses a small group of passerine birds previously classified under the Thraupidae. These birds are native to South and southern Central America and include three genera: Mitrospingus, which has the Dusky-faced tanager (M. cassinii) and Olive-backed tanager (M. oleagineus); Orthogonys, with the Olive-green tanager (O. chloricterus); and Lamprospiza, which includes the Red-billed pied tanager (L. melanoleuca). There are, in total, four species within this family.

I’m relatively new to birding as a hobby, and Birda is a great way to keep track off all the species I see. I think this app is fun. It makes you want to spot birds more so I guess in a way it encourages you to get out and about instead of sitting in front of the TV.

Clean and easy to use

Really enjoying this app, it's clean and easy to use. I love the ease of being able to add those one-off birds without starting a whole checklist. I also like the social aspect, like the parts of my Facebook I like, without the ads and junk, just birds. Can't wait to see it become more populated.

Great app for beginner twitchers
