Brown Crake

Zapornia akool

The brown crake (Zapornia akool), or brown bush-hen, is a waterbird in the rail and crake family (Rallidae) found in South Asia. The species name, akool, is of uncertain origin. It may come from Hindu mythology, or it may be a derivation of the Sinhalese word kukkula, which is used for both moorhen and watercock.

Fun way to add to your birdwatching experience
I enjoy watching birds in my backyard, but this app helped me really pay attention while on vacation this summer. It was fun to add new birds to my bird watching app.

Great app for bird lovers
I love this app! Itโ€™s a wonderful way to track birding sessions, and also connect you with fellow birders. I also really like the unidentified bird section, itโ€™s a great community tool to help figure out what a never-before-seen bird is!

Terrific App for Birders
Downloaded Birda around the time my interest in birding was sparked, and it has been a terrific app to help me (1) share my experience, (2) document my sightings, and (3) learn more about birds in general. That said, I also believe Birda is a fantastic app for birders of all experience levels. Great community!

Awesome Birding Community
I absolutely love the community aspect of this app. The app is so user friendly and has fun interactive challenges to get you out birding. Iโ€™ve tried others but since Iโ€™ve started using Birda Iโ€™ve not gone back!

Fantastic app - Love it!
Love this app and have used it almost daily. Lots of species information and easy to use. Love seeing birds spotted by other users in the UK and worldwide.

Just what birding needs
We need more fun in birding, for years it has had a reputation for being up tight and stuffy and only perused by retirees and anoraks. Birda helps change that perception and firmly brings birding into the 21st century! Fun, interactive while still contributing to science and conservation. If you arenโ€™t on it, why not??

Learning Birding with Birda
Iโ€™m relatively new to birding as a hobby, and Birda is a great way to keep track off all the species I see. Iโ€™m still working on my ID skills, but the app is great for figuring out potential species, and the online community is so friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend Birda to both early and serious birders! ๐Ÿฆ
