Yellow-rumped Mannikin

Lonchura flaviprymna

The Yellow-rumped Mannikin, also known as the Yellow-rumped Munia, is a charming species of estrildid finch. It is adorned with a distinctive yellow patch on its rump, a feature that is not only a delight to observe but also serves as a key identification marker.

Identification Tips

When attempting to identify this small finch, look for the characteristic yellow rump that stands out against its otherwise modest plumage. The bird's overall coloration is subtle, yet upon closer inspection, one may notice the fine details that make it unique.

Habitat

This species thrives in a variety of environments ranging from subtropical to tropical locales. It has a particular affinity for mangrove ecosystems, moist savannas, and wetlands, where it can be seen flitting about in search of sustenance.

Distribution

The Yellow-rumped Mannikin is a bird of the Australian continent, with its presence predominantly noted in the eastern Kimberley region and the north-western part of the Northern Territory. It enjoys a relatively broad range, with an estimated global extent of occurrence between 20,000 and 50,000 kmΒ².

Conservation Status

Bird enthusiasts can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that the Yellow-rumped Mannikin is currently classified as Least Concern by the IUCN. This status reflects the bird's stable population and the absence of significant threats to its survival at this time.

Friendly and helps to identify birds
Great birding app, good for logging your sightings, also has nice species guide. I'm enjoying the social aspect more than I expected, everyone seems friendly and helps to identify unknown birds. Good mix of newbies and experienced users.

Easy to use and accurate
Love this app. It is easy to use and accurate, Their backup communication is really good. I noted a missing species. All through the process, I was kept informed about the progress in correcting the information. I now have the corrected, updated version. 😁 Thanks!

Makes you want to spot birds more
I think this app is fun. It makes you want to spot birds more so I guess in a way it encourages you to get out and about instead of sitting in front of the TV.

Been loving using this app to log my bird sightings and work together with community members to identify different birds. I've already learned a lot since I started about a month ago!

Just what birding needs
We need more fun in birding, for years it has had a reputation for being up tight and stuffy and only perused by retirees and anoraks. Birda helps change that perception and firmly brings birding into the 21st century! Fun, interactive while still contributing to science and conservation. If you aren’t on it, why not??
