The Tawny-backed Fantail, also known as the Cinnamon-backed Fantail, is a charming avian species belonging to the Rhipiduridae family. It is a bird that carries the scientific name Rhipidura superflua and was first described by Hartert in the year 1899.

This species can be identified by its distinctive tawny or cinnamon hue on its back, which contrasts with the more common coloration found in other fantail species.

Habitat

The Tawny-backed Fantail is a bird that thrives in the lush environment of subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, as well as subtropical or tropical moist montane forests.

Endemic to the island of Buru in Indonesia, this species has carved out a niche for itself in this specific locale.

Conservation status

With an area of occupancy exceeding 20,000 km² and a stable population of over 10,000 individuals, the Tawny-backed Fantail is currently classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List. This status reflects a species that, for the moment, is not facing an immediate threat of decline.

Great bird recording
