Last Gambia Bird Walk

Fabulous last birding day, with our wonderful birding guide, Lamin Bojang. We went to the Abuko Reserve, and rice fields, and as well as crocodiles, red colobus and green vervet monkeys wild, there were also hyenas and baboons which had been rescued. Difficult to take photos in the dark forest area, so no decent photos of the blackcap babbler. But we also saw white-billed buffalo weaver for the first time. And really good views of lots of birds we’d seen but only in the distance. Again, a very high bird density - hard to believe the hooded vulture is critically endangered globally, as they are everywhere here! Lots of waders walking right next to the women working hard in the rice and vegetable fields, in the channels between the raised beds. And huge numbers of yellow-billed shrike and others. I’d love to come back one day, having felt so lucky to be able to come here. Very grateful to all the wonderful Gambian people who made the trip ☺️
