Jerdon's Bush Chat

The Jerdon's bush chat (Saxicola jerdoni) is a captivating species of bird belonging to the family Muscicapidae. This bird is named in honor of the surgeon-naturalist Thomas C. Jerdon, whose contributions to natural history are commemorated through this nomenclature.

Distribution

With an extremely large range, the Jerdon's bush chat graces the landscapes of several Asian countries. It is native to Bangladesh, China, India, Laos, Nepal, Thailand, and Vietnam. However, there is a possibility that it has become extinct in Myanmar. The Sukla Phanta National Park in Nepal marks the western boundary of its distribution.

Conservation status

The Jerdon's bush chat is currently classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List. This status indicates that, at present, the species does not face an immediate threat of extinction in the wild.
